Mylapore Fine Arts Club was the only choice Maithreyi's parents had when she decided to go ahead with the Rangapravesam. The place has a long association with the maternal grand father of Maithreyi, the late Sri. K.S. Venkatraman. It is today considered one of the premium sabhas for classical music and dance in the city of Chennai.
KSV as he was popularly known, was the Secretary of the Sabha for about 40 years starting from 1972 until his demise in 2012. He was quite popular among the performing artists as a discerning Secretary who encouraged talented young artists. He was also famous for his betel leaf, scented areca nut and tobacco that he shared liberally with artists who came to perform in the sabha. Here is an interview he gave in 2003 regarding the status of Sabhas and the carnatic music scene in the city. Maithreyi is the first member of the family giving a solo performance in this venue and KSV would have been very proud of this accomplishment.
The photo below is KSV thatha trying to teach a young Maithreyi.
